Indicators by environment type

In the Luonnontila web service, Finnish environments have been divided into nine major environment types, following the assessments of the endangerment of Finnish species and habitat types. Environment types are organized by area, from the largest to the smallest.

Whereas the delineation of some environment types is clearer than others (e.g., the Baltic Sea and agricultural environments), the definitions of others are, however, open to interpretation. For example, the distinctions between forests, mires, and fells are more about continuums rather than clearly defined units.
